TheEuropeanDream started because two expats were frustrated by how hard it was to compare cities, understand visas, and find a neighbourhood that actually fit their lives.
Making the move to Europe accessible for everyone
There are an estimated 9 million Americans living abroad, and that number grows every year. Yet most relocation tools are built for large corporations, not curious individuals who are considering a big life change.
TheEuropeanDream exists to close that gap โ combining real city data, visa information, neighbourhood maps, and community insights into one free platform.
How it started
In 2023, Marcus made the move from San Francisco to Lisbon. Like most Americans, he had spent months on subreddits, expat Facebook groups, and YouTube vlogs trying to piece together the information he needed. The data existed โ it was just scattered across a hundred different places.
He met Sofia, a Lisbon native who had spent five years helping international friends navigate her city. Together they built the first version of what became TheEuropeanDream: a neighbourhood comparison tool for Lisbon that their network immediately loved.
Today, TheEuropeanDream covers 42 cities across 8 countries โ with visa guides, a city matcher, neighbourhood maps, a job board, and real-estate listings. Itโs the starting point for thousands of people every month who are seriously considering the move.
